Maths Congress

Project Overview

The Pupkewitz Foundation has supported the National Mathematics Congress since its inception in 2006.

The Congress acknowledges the teacher as a practising professional and encourages broader networking of mathematics educators from junior to primary to tertiary institutions.

It has become an annual event on the calendar of the Ministry of Education and is attended by up to 300 mathematics educators every year. The programme aims at building capacity through motivating educators to share experiences, to critically reflect on their own practice and to consider new ideas and perspectives for implementation in the classroom. The programme varies between plenary and parallel session for the different phases of education and takes place every year over three days in Swakopmund, during the May holidays.

Experts includes University of Namibia lecturers; National Institute of Education ‘s Directorate: Programmes and Quality Assurance and Directorate: National Examination and Assessment, advisory teachers as well as three to four mathematics experts from outside Namibia that are invited. These facilitators have been selected for their expertise in mathematics, education, both academically and pedagogically. Their presence and their contributions the programme are therefore regarded invaluable.
