Interschool Gala

Project Overview

The annual Pupkewitz Schools Gala is an annual event held in Windhoek, Oranjemund & Swakopmund. Seven hundred swimmers representing fifteen different schools participate at the Gala annually organised by the Namibia Swimming Union. The Foundation have been sponsoring the annual schools gala for the past 48 years and it is the longest continuous sponsorship of an annual sports event in Namibia. The financial assistance enables the Namibia Swimming Union to take swimming to the regions and thereby ensuring broad base development of this crucial life skill.

Seven Hundred swimmers from fifteen different schools participate in the Gala annually. The Gala is held in three towns – Oranjemund, Windhoek and Swakopmund.

The Pupkewitz Interschool Gala has become a great tool assisting in the development of swimming as a sport in schools. This event is also seen by coaches as scouting for talent for their clubs in competitive swimming. As part of its drive to upgrade and preserve the lives of our Namibian children and youth (some of whom are lost to drowning annually), the Foundation is agreeable to sponsoring water safety, and learn-to-swim initiatives countrywide.
